Position Summary

The Lead Data Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for architecting, building, and optimizing scalable data solutions within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. This role will guide the design of modern data platforms, including medallion architecture and Microsoft Fabric, while collaborating closely with other data engineers, product management, business leaders, and external partners. The Lead will make architectural decisions, drive system integration, and ensure robust, performant, and secure data delivery across the organization. Expertise in Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, Function Apps, and Fabric is essential to lead the evolution of our data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain scalable ELT/ETL data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric
  • Lead the implementation of medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers) to support performant, modular data processing
  • Design and optimize orchestration workflows using Azure Logic Apps and Azure Function Apps to automate data movement and transformation
  • Own the evaluation, rollout, and scaling of Microsoft Fabric as a core component of the enterprise data platform
  • Define and enforce engineering standards, conduct code reviews, and mentor other data engineers to ensure maintainable and high-quality solutions
  • Develop and maintain data integration solutions across diverse systems using REST/SOAP APIs, BICC extracts, and other vendor-specific interfaces
  • Collaborate with product managers, business leaders, and external vendors to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure successful data onboarding
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for data workflows, ensuring reliable deployment and version control across environments
  • Optimize data pipelines and storage solutions for performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, and security within the Azure ecosystem
  • Contribute to data governance efforts, including data quality, lineage, and stewardship, in partnership with other stakeholders
  • Document data workflows, architecture decisions, and operational processes to support transparency, maintainability, and onboarding

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for formal education
  • Minimum eight years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with at least three years in a technical leadership or architecture role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, mentor engineers, and set engineering standards
  • Experience in real estate or property management is a plus, but not required
  • Advanced proficiency in leveraging Python and SQL for scalable data transformation, modeling, and automation
  • Advanced proficiency in designing, deploying, and maintaining ELT/ETL pipelines with robust monitoring and observability
  • Proficient in integrating systems via REST and SOAP APIs, including orchestration across enterprise platforms
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Logic Apps, Function Apps, and Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience in implementing, maintaining, and extending a medallion architecture
  • Experience leading CI/CD pipeline development for data workflows, including version control and automated testing
  • Experience designing and implementing Master Data Management (MDM) solutions and data governance frameworks
  • Strong understanding of data governance, lineage, and security best practices in cloud-native environments
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and establish technical standards for data engineering
  • Ability to define and enforce documentation standards for data architecture, workflows, and operational processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Skilled in Agile development practices and iterative delivery
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive outcomes in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to sit for extended periods
  • May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
  • Must be able to read documents, computer screens, and data
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer

Work Environment:

  • This may be a fully remote role or a hybrid role that requires the associate to work in one of our corporate or regional offices at least four days a week. If remote, the associate is required to have a workspace free from distractions and a reliable internet connection
  • The office is an open environment that may feature bright lights, constant sounds, and distractions
