Position Summary

The position: Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Vice President of Insurance Services directs the company’s master property & casualty (P&C) program, resident insurance products, the supporting captive insurer, and other revenue generating insurance offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute a growth‑focused strategy for the master P&C program—including program design, vendor oversight, compliance, marketing, adoption goals, and premium allocation—for third‑party and RPM‑owned properties.
  • Design and execute a growth‑focused strategy for resident insurance products (e.g., renters’ liability, contents), covering program design, vendor oversight, compliance, marketing campaigns, adoption targets, and profitability metrics.
  • Administer and support the placement of alternative P&C lines tailored to specific business objectives.
  • Oversee the captive insurer, including governance, reinsurance purchasing, capital adequacy, regulatory filings, and reporting.
  • Provide coverage advocacy, large‑loss reviews, and carrier negotiations in close coordination with the Vice President of Risk Management for claims under the master program.
  • Identify and evaluate growth initiatives that expand or create revenue streams.
  • Monitor market trends, statutory changes, and emerging risks; recommend program adjustments and brief executive leadership.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate the insurance team; set KPIs and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management, insurance, or legal fields.  Experience will substitute for education.
  • Five years of corporate insurance experience, including program placement, captive director/officer responsibilities, and leadership of multi‑state portfolios.
  • Must hold, or obtain within six months, any applicable state insurance licenses.
  • Professional risk designation preferred, including ARM, CPCU, and CIC.
  • Knowledge of property and casualty markets, program design, captive insurance, and alternative risk financing. 
  • Knowledge of the multi-family housing industry a plus.
  • Skilled in financial modeling, negotiation, and analytical abilities.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office business software including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in Risk Management Information Systems. 
  • Ability to create and scale revenue‑generating insurance products.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and conflicting requests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, ability to convey complex insurance concepts to non‑experts and influence stakeholders.

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to read documents, computer screens and data
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer
  • May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment

Work Environment:

  • This is a hybrid role, requiring the associate to work in one of our corporate or regional offices 4 days per week
  • The office is an open setting which may include bright lights, constant noises and distractions.
  • Limited travel may be required.
