Position Summary

The position: The Recertification Specialist will conduct Annual and Interim Recertifications of Affordable Housing residents to determined continued occupancy as required by affordable program regulations and RPM policies, under the supervision of the Compliance Manager. The incumbent also performs clerical and administrative tasks related to RPM housing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to RPM affordable housing sites and prepare and process Annual and Interim Recertifications. This includes preparing notices, and scheduling interviews to meet with residents to complete the Annual and Interim Recertifications
  • Facilitate renewal and recertification process for affordable residents
  • Calculate retroactive rent while conforming to all applicable guidelines
  • Assist with resident outreach as needed and work directly with residents to gather and organize necessary documentation
  • Determine verifications needed to accurately evaluate residents’ continued eligibility
  • Collect necessary documentation from residents, employers and other organizations and process verifications
  • Conduct all job-related duties in compliance with HUD, LIHTC, other housing contract guidelines, equal housing opportunity laws, and RPM best practices
  • Responsible for tracking and implementing renewal schedules for each portfolio and ensuring compliance to the 120- day recertification period
  • Maintain complete, accurate and timely records in the property management software
  • Follow LIHTC, HUD, HOME, Section 8, and all required program guidelines
  • Flexibility in resident relations; ensuring resident needs for scheduling and completion of documentation are considered and met, when possible
  • Calculate annual income, determine eligibility, and calculate resident rents and total payments in accordance with related regulations; determine income allowances and deductions; and provide residents with relevant documentation
  • Ensure files are being maintained properly, kept secure, and confidential
  • Bring non-compliance issues to the attention of supervisor and initiate corrective action

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • 2 years of experience with HUD Section 8, LIHTC, and/or other affordable housing programs
  • COS, TCS, or BOS designation preferred
  • Proven experience with affordable housing programs such as HUD, Section 8, Tax Credit
  • Ability to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to read documents, computer screens and data
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer
  • May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment

Work Environment:

  • This is a hybrid role, requiring the associate to work in one of our corporate or regional offices 4 days per week
  • The office is an open setting which may include bright lights, constant noises and distractions
