The Position: The Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of safety programs and policies to ensure a safe working environment and a positive safety culture. The Safety Specialist works closely with the Safety Manager in identifying hazards through risk assessment and investigations and ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply professional discretion in administering and overseeing the health and safety program of RPM Living to aid in the establishment and management of a positive safety culture, regulatory compliance, and training.
  • Independently assess and support claims management working in conjunction with Worker’s Compensation Department
  • Audit safe work practices and documentation. Conducts, in conjuncture with the Safety Manager and Facilities Department, incident investigations to identify root causes of accidents and injuries.
  • Provide expert guidance to employees and in fostering a progressive safety culture while maintaining positive and proactive relations with managers and employees.
  • Motivates all employees to strive for an accident-free work environment and provides support across all departments to better enable employees to perform their jobs safely.
  • Collect and analyze safety data to develop strategic initiatives to address reoccurring deficiencies across all facilities.
  • Attends and participates in monthly organizational meetings to implement needed safety factors and topics.
  • Assist in driving the Risk Departments continuous improvement efforts across all sites.
  • Assists in the development and dissemination of safety training as needed.
  • Assists in loss control efforts.
  • Manage internal and external communications related to loss prevention or incidents.
  • Effectively collaborate with other departments

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years environmental health and safety experience
  • Two years of experience in workplace safety, compliance, or risk management
  • Knowledge of hazard identification, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
  • Knowledge of insurance, claims processes, and risk assessment methodologies
  • Knowledge of renter’s insurance, general liability, discrimination, and property events that might warrant an insurance company to be notified of a potential claim.
  • Skilled in critical thinking & problem solving
  • Skilled in in tracking, analyzing, and interpreting safety performance metrics
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Yardi
  • Skilled in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and policies

     

  • Skilled in communication and presentation to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.

  • Skilled in leadership and team management, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Ability to independently analyze safety risks and implement effective solutions.

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to read documents, computer screens and data
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer
  • May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment

Work Environment:

  • This is a hybrid role, requiring the associate to work in one of our corporate or regional offices 4 days per week
  • The office is an open setting which may include bright lights, constant noises and distractions
